Well's Belles

Erika Busing

We would like to acknowledge, with great admiration, one of our “soul” mothers, who is also a member of the congregation of St. John’s the Evangelist.

Erika  got involved in The Well’s infancy, playing a major role for many years both on the Steering Committee and as Volunteer Coordinator.

Erika was also the Shepherd who led this flock to St. John’s Parish!

Erika continues to be close to the heart of all who come to The Well/La Source.

W.O.W.’s and Kudos to you, Erika!

Beth Cook (as featured in the Spring/07 "Well Said" Newsletter)

It is a great privilege for The Well/La Source to have a longstanding volunteer, mentor, friend, shepherdess and “number cruncher” to honour.Beth Cook

Beth Cook has been our “common cents” since the beginning of our time.  Not the beginning of her time with The Well, actually Beth began her “Well” dedication as one of the visionaries that gave birth to The Anglican Diocesan ministries to women, both the emergency women’s shelter and The Well/La Source.  So Beth is one of our genuine “founding” mothers and in true maternal fashion is our “good mother”, feet on ground, heart in hand, facing forward, encouraging us to be ourselves.   Beth has given of her time (about a quarter of a century’s worth) to provide endless hugs and encouragement, mentoring me (among many others), affirming you (among many others) and embracing The Well/La Source with her gentle spirit and unconditional love.

Beth has honoured us in so many ways for so long that we would like to take this opportunity to honour her today, tomorrow and always as our “good mother”.

We’ve got money in our pockets,

We like the colour of your hair…

'cause you're a friend who loves us

Got a "home" - we’ve got a surplus

We’ve got a GOOD MOTHER,

And your love is what keeps us here.

Feet on ground,

Heart in hand,

Facing forward,

To be ourselves… To be ourselves…

We’ve got…Good…Mother…

Rosemary Watkins (as featured in the Summer/07 "Well Said" Newsletter)

Rosemary Watkins

I first met “The Muffin Lady” in 2005…it took a few days to learn that her name was really Rosemary, and that she made   muffins every week for The Well.

As I got to know her, through our chats and from what other gals were telling me, I learned that Rosemary has been making muffins weekly since the mid-90’s or so. Every Monday, she’s up to awaken the birds…and puts out dozens of muffins for our women’s breakfast.

Her hard work doesn’t stop there. She drops off muffins, stays for a spell, and whenever possible, stays to help with making coffee/tea and even with lunch duties...from there, going up to water the plants and flowers at St John’s. She once told me that she looked in on her “elderly” neighbours, and I would sometimes run into her at the grocery store running errands for them.

I’ve always admired Rosemary…I can only hope that I can keep going as strong as she does for as long as she has. She is truly an amazing woman, stopping only long enough to recuperate from repairs to aging/injured joints.

Thanks for everything “Muffin Lady”.

I first met Rosemary Watkins when I started volunteering at The Well in 1991. She was the arts and crafts facilitator at that time but she was always at the ready to help out anywhere she was needed. For the past many years Rosemary has delivered her home made muffins weekly for all to enjoy. Each and every muffin is filled with love and kindness and gratefully received by countless visitors, volunteers and staff alike. Rosemary is a bright and shiny star in my eyes and her thoughtfulness and endless devotion to caring for others in her own special way is truly awe inspiring! Bunches and bundles of love to you Rosemary. May you always feel the love that you give so freely of yourself.
