Please don’t judge me by my clothes. I have the best
wardrobe. I always look nice now. I even got a new winter coat the other
day from Madelaine, the really nice volunteer at The Well. It keeps me
real warm, especially with all the walking I have to do with the buses
being on strike.
I had a beautiful fancy outfit that I wore at
Christmas. I got it because I was in the Fall Fashion Show. I had
beautiful shoes too. I know how good I looked!
I don’t mean to complain but people think that
because I dress so well now that I have enough. I have only enough to
pay my rent and bills each month. I don’t have enough food to eat. I go
to The Well to get a nice hot lunch every day. I also get canned food
from their Emergency Food Room.
Before the bus strike started, sometimes the outreach
workers had extra bus tickets so I could take the bus to come in for
bingo or karaoke or yoga - but the tickets are supposed to be for
medical appointments only. But when there were extras, I got some which
was really nice to have in the cold weather. I really like coming so I
can talk to my friends. I don’t want to be alone all the time.
I am grateful for all the gifts from The Well but
please don’t judge me by my clothes.
